I participated in the OpenInnovation hackathon again and my team won the 2nd place in our category!
My team was solving a problem proposed by CARE Denmark, a humanitarian and development organization focused on fighting poverty, climate change, and inequality in vulnerable communities, primarily in Africa and Asia.
The challenge we were solving was about enabling refugee-led entrepreneurship to improve and scale access to safe drinking water in the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya.
We focused on improving the quality and safety of water. We suggested a solution based on a UV sanitation system that could be used for disinfecting the jerrycans used for storing and transporting the water. The system would be installed in schools, so that it would be owned by the community and enable local entrepreneurship, as well as boost school attendance.
Our idea was appreciated and we got the 2nd place! Aside from that, it was also a really good opportunity to learn about the issues in the world, different realities and perspectives that people live in, and how we could make things better. It was a very inspiring experience and also pretty fun:)
Big thanks to the whole team!
